Cell Organelles: Golgi complex

Cell Organelles: Golgi complex
By Russell Kightley Media

In this picture, the Golgi complex is seen as a pancake-like stack of membranous sacs tilted at 45 degrees and sectioned (the cut membrane edges drawn purple). The Golgi receives proteins synthesised in the rough endoplasmic reticulum. These are ferried to the Golgi by transfer vesicles (the little golden spheres underneath the Golgi stack). The proteins are then processed by the Golgi for export, membrane use or for inclusion in lysosomes.
